Kathmandu, January 9
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale has said that a ‘calibration flight’ will take place at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa as soon as the weather improves.
While monitoring the airport on Saturday, he said that the calibration flight could not take place due to the bad weather in the last few days.
He said, ”All preparations have been completed for the calibration flight. If the weather improves, we will carry out the calibration flight.” Minister Ale said that the flight would start soon at Gautam Buddha International Airport.
Minister Ale also directed to complete the construction of new equipment and physical
infrastructure under construction at the airport as soon as possible. He also inspected the
runway, control tower, passenger traffic and departure lounge of the airport.
A calibration flight is a test to see if the equipment connected to the runway, tower, etc., which directs the aircraft to take off and land at the airport, as well as other operations, has worked.
Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Raj Kumar Chhetri, said that a
technical team from Aerothai, Thailand was preparing to perform a calibration flight at Gautam Buddha International Airport.
He said, ”The calibration flight is done by the technical team of Aerothai. If they say there is no problem, our technical team is ready to do the test flight.”
The calibration flight has a rule to test the runway alignment, lights, equipment and test flight once everything is reported. Gautam Buddha International Airport has a total area of 800 bighas.
