One of the peripheral products made by US electric vehicle giant Tesla, the Tesla Cyberwhistle, has run out of stock at Tesla China’s official online shopping mall, following a buying frenzy by Tesla fans.
Although the domestic price of the Cyberwhistle, which is priced at 350 yuan ($55), is more than 30 yuan higher than its overseas version, it quickly sold out after being made available to Chinese consumers.
Inspired by Tesla’s Cybertruck, the limited-edition Cyberwhistle is a premium collectible made from medical-grade stainless steel with a polished finish. The whistle includes an integrated attachment feature for added versatility.
Given limited inventory, the Cyberwhistle quickly emerged on Xianyu, Alibaba’s second-hand goods exchange platform, with prices ranging from 100 yuan to as high as 999 yuan.
Announced back in 2019, the electric-powered pickup Cybertruck is still yet to be delivered. After CEO Elon Musk promised deliveries would begin in 2021, the Cybertruck was once again delayed to 2022.
Recently, Tesla made major changes to the Cybertruck ordering page on its website, completely scratching the 2022 production estimate. Instead, the website says “You will be able to complete your configuration as production nears.”
Peripheral products marketed by global tech giants have become a trending topic since last year, many sparking heated discussion for what is often limited utility value combined with high prices.
Mocking Apple’s $19 polishing cloth, Musk told his followers on December 1 not to waste their money on Apple’s “silly” cloth, encouraging them to purchase the company’s $50 whistle instead.
