Lalita Niwas case: CIB investigation completed

Kathmandu, January 4.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has reached the final stage of investigation into the case of land grabbing at Lalita Niwas in Baluwatar, Kathmandu. The CIB has concluded that 126 ropanis out of 143 ropanis of government land of Lalita Niwas adjacent to the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar has been misappropriated.

Chief of the Bureau, Deputy Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh informed that the investigation has reached the final stage. “The investigation into government land grabbing has reached its final stage. We are preparing to submit the report in a few days,” he said. The investigation period of this case is coming to an end on December 10. Due to the provision that the case should be registered in the court within that time, the bureau is preparing to submit the investigation report to the district public prosecutor’s office this week.

The CIB said it was preparing to recommend a lawsuit against more than 300 people linked to government land grabbing. He includes the then government employees and others. The CIB has not launched an investigation into the political leadership. The CIB is preparing to claim the loss of Rs 12.96 billion due to the loss of 126 ropanis of land.

According to the CIB, the then secretaries of the Ministry of Land Reforms Chhabi Raj Pant and Dinesh Hari Adhikari and the then secretaries of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Deep Basnyat, Joint Secretary Geha Nath Bhandari and other staff are ready to recommend action.

Similarly, the Bureau is preparing to recommend action against the employees of Land Revenue Office, Survey Office, Guthi Institute, Ward Office and other agencies, former officials of the Department of Land Management and Records and the then employees of the Ministry of Land Reforms. It is reported in today’s Gorkhapatra daily that the government is preparing to recommend action against those who have taken financial benefit from middlemen and sale of land.
