Kathmandu, January 4.
The Election Commission (EC) has completed all the preparations to register nomination papers of candidates for 19 vacant posts in the National Assembly.
The nomination of candidates for the upcoming election will be registered from 10 am to 3 pm today, said Komal Dhamala, Assistant Spokesperson of the Commission. Twelve political parties will participate in the election. The commission will provide election symbol to the candidate on Poush 25.
The term of eight members of the CPN-UML, four members of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, four members of the CPN-Maoist Center and three members of the Nepali Congress is coming to an end on Falgun 8.
There is a provision that the election should be held 35 days before the expiration of the term of the member. Nine political parties will participate in the election in all the states and three parties will participate in the special states only.
According to the commission, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-Unified
Socialist, Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Loktantrik Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, Rastriya
Prajatantra Party and Nepal Pariwar Dal will participate in all the states.
Democratic Socialist Party Province No. 2 and Far Western Province, Nepal Mazdur Kisan Party Bagmati and Historic Prajatantrik Janata Party Nepal will participate only in Province No. 2.
An election official has already been appointed for the election and polling stations and polling booths have been identified. There are 2,025 voters for the election, including members of the state assembly and the chief and deputy chief of the municipality.
In the election, the votes of the members of the state assembly will be 48 and the votes of the chief and deputy chief of the municipality will be 18. There will be 1,493 local level voters and 532 state assembly voters in the election. Candidates from seven women, three dalits, two persons with disabilities or minorities and seven other groups will be elected from the election.
There is a constitutional provision that one-third of the members of the 59-member National Assembly, representing the intelligentsia, will complete their term every two years. Although the term of office of a member of the National Assembly was six years, for the first time the term was determined by a round of voting. The commission has planned to implement the election code of conduct for all as soon as the election symbol is provided.
