Joint meeting of ruling parties continues

A meeting of the ruling coalition partners is underway to discuss the upcoming National
Assembly elections. Rastriya Janamorcha vice-chairperson Durga Poudel informed that the
meeting was being held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar.

The ruling coalition partners Congress, Maoists, Unified Socialists and Jaspa are preparing to form an alliance in the upcoming National Assembly elections on January 27. As Tuesday is the day of registration of candidates, efforts are being made to distribute seats.

Eight MPs from the UML, four from the UCPN (Maoist), four from the CPN-Unified Socialists,
three from the Nepali Congress and one nominee are leaving the party after completing their four-year term. National Assembly elections will be held in all the seven states for 19 seats except for one seat to be nominated by the President.

Candidate registration for the National Assembly election is scheduled on Poush 20 (Tuesday). A schedule has been drawn up to file a complaint against the candidature on the 21st, to investigate and decide on the complaint on the 22nd and 23rd, to withdraw the name on the 24th and to publish the final list of the candidate on the 25th.

The commission has stated that the election symbol will be provided to the candidates on the same day and polling will be held at the designated polling stations from 9 am to 3 pm on Magh 12. Prior to that, the parties wishing to participate in the election were given time to register their parties from Poush 1 to 10.
