Janmat Party cadres arrested from Saptari will be kept in police custody for another seven days.
Six of the 14 people arrested on Friday for blocking the East-West Highway have been
remanded in custody for seven days by the district court on charges of violating public order, police said.
According to Saptari Police Spokesperson and DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle, the investigation has been started by detaining Janmat Party District Chairman Chandeshwar Mandal, Secretary Thaneshwar Sah, Kanchanrup Municipal Committee Chairman Anil Panjiar, Hanuman Nagar Kankalini-1 Chairman Surendra Mandal and leaders Yogananda Sah and Mahinarayan Sah.
They were arrested while blocking the road at Bhardaha on the East-West Highway last Friday demanding fertilizer from the farmers.
The Janmat Party has announced an indefinite highway closure in Madhes district from
December 3 demanding the formation of a high-level committee to address the demands of the farmers, timely provision of fertilizer, seeds, irrigation, free irrigation and electricity, and automatic crop insurance. However, the police have been using force to open the highway.
