Kathmandu, December 31
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that new sanctions could cut ties with the United States.
During a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden on Thursday, Putin warned that relations with the United States would be severed if new sanctions were imposed on Ukraine. Putin also said that imposing new sanctions would be a big mistake.
In a telephone conversation that lasted about an hour, Biden said the United States and its
allies would ‘firmly respond’ to any intervention in Ukraine. He also urged Putin to seek a
diplomatic solution, according to the BBC.
Putin and Biden discussed Ukraine during the talks, which took place amid rising tensions
between the two countries. The latest round of talks was held at the request of Russia to
reduce tensions.
Western nations, including the United States, have warned of new sanctions on Ukraine
following reports that Russia has deployed more than 100,000 troops along its border with
Ukraine.
However, the two presidents have held talks twice in a month to reduce tensions.
