Meeting between Maoist leader Pun and Chinese Deputy Minister Zhao

Kathmandu, December 28

CPN-Maoist Center leader Barshaman Pun and Chinese Deputy Minister Chen Zhao have met.
Pun, a member of the Standing Committee in Shenzhen, China, held bilateral talks with Chinese Communist Party leader and Deputy Minister Zhao on Monday.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Zhao wished success to the 8th National General
Convention of the Maoist Center.

Responding to a query from the Chinese side, Pun said that the party would go for the
forthcoming elections and beyond by uniting the party among good revolutionary communists, if that was not possible.

Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Zhao also expressed interest in the US aid project Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC), Pun said. Referring to the formation of a task force by the ruling coalition to study the MCC, Pun said that the government and the coalition would move forward in the national interest after receiving the report of the task force.

He went to Bangkok, Thailand for treatment on 29 September and returned to China for further treatment after his health did not improve as expected. He has been undergoing treatment at the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen in Shenzhen, China since November 26, when his health improved significantly.

Leader Pun, who has been undergoing treatment for hereditary and rare jaundice for the past three months, said that he would return to Nepal soon after consulting a doctor.
