A workshop on election operation and management has been organized by the Election
Commission for women media persons of various media houses in Dhulikhel, Kavre. Addressing the three-day workshop, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that the role of media as the fourth organ of the state would be important for clean, free, fair, credible and economical election through communication of truth, facts and real news and ideas in all stages and processes of the election cycle.
Stating that the Election Commission has the constitutional responsibility to conduct, supervise, direct and control all types of elections and next year is the year of elections, he said that the media should also play a proper role in enhancing the effectiveness of the Commission’s policies, strategies, programs and activities.
The workshop, chaired by Election Commissioner Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, covered election cycle and election process, monitoring and regulation of mass media in elections, gender and inclusion in election management, election reporting in awkward situations, elections and media in digital age, misinformation and misinformation in elections, misinformation and hate speech. Experts from related fields presented and facilitated working papers on issues and problems arising from expression.
A panel comprising Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Commission Shaligram Sharma Poudel, President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Vipul Pokhrel and Chairman of the Media Group Nitu Pandit was formed at the workshop under the coordination of Tuladhar.
The workshop was attended by 26 women journalists from various television, radio, online and print media.
