Kathmandu, December 26
The CPN-Maoist Center has transformed the first national conference which is about to start in Kathmandu from today into the eighth national general convention.
A meeting of the Central Committee has started at the party office Paris danda to formalize the decision.
Earlier, a meeting of the Standing Committee held on Friday had decided to submit a proposal to convert the conference into a general convention at a meeting of the Central Committee.
The Maoists have also decided to invite leaders of 11 different political parties to the
inauguration ceremony of the General Convention to be held at Pragya Bhawan, Kamaladi in the afternoon. According to Chief Secretary of the Central Office, Shri Ram Dhakal, leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Janata Samajwadi Party, CPN-Unified Socialist, Rastriya Janamorcha, Nemkipa, CPN-Malay and RPP have been invited as guests. Earlier, the Maoists had decided not to invite guests to the national conference.
As the National Conference has been transformed into a General Convention, the pre-
scheduled opening ceremony has been postponed from one o’clock to three o’clock.
The Maoist center has decided to hold a national general convention on the occasion of the 129th birth anniversary of Mao. In a statement issued on the occasion on Sunday morning, Prachanda said that he was going to hold the eighth national general convention for new revolutionary ideas and formation of a revolutionary party. Prachanda has appealed to the General Convention delegates, party leaders, cadres and the people to focus on the development of a new party line.
