High Court appeals to Modi to stop Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections

Kathmandu, December 24

India’s Allahabad High Court has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

The Allahabad High Court has appealed to stop the forthcoming Assembly elections, rallies and processions in Uttar Pradesh in view of the growing contagion of Omicron and the possible third wave. Judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav has appealed to Modi to make rules for the Registrar General of the High Court to deal with the latest situation.

“The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are approaching again and the parties are holding rallies, meetings and gatherings with millions of people for the elections,” said an appeal issued by Judge Yadav. If left unmanaged, they can be left astray and lose the right path. “If possible, it would be better to postpone the February election for a month or two, as the election rally can only be held if there is life,” the appeal said.

Similarly, Yadav also praised Modi for launching a vaccination campaign against covid in India, which has a large population. ‘Our esteemed Prime Minister has launched a vaccination campaign to make the country with such a large population cod free. “This is commendable and the court appreciates it,” Yadav said.

Assembly elections are being held in five states of India, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, in February-March. But with the recent rise of new Omicron variants of the Covid-19, a growing number of states have begun to take precautions. The central government has also advised the state government to ban big events and impose curfew at night.
