Bangladesh: At least 32 killed in ferry fire

Kathmandu, December 24

At least 32 people have been killed in a fire on a ferry in Bangladesh. The fire broke out at
Jhakakathi, 250 km south of the capital Dhaka, on Friday morning. There were 500 passengers in the crashed ferry.

The fire broke out in the middle of the river on the third floor. We have found the bodies of 32 people who were burnt in the fire. The death toll could rise further. Local police chief Moinus Islam said. Some had jumped into the river after the fire broke out.

One hundred people injured in the fire are being treated at a local hospital. Accidents have
been reported again and again in Bangladesh. Experts say the accident happened again due to lack of maintenance, low safety and overcrowding.
