Proposal to hold local level election on 20th Baishakh

Kathmandu, December 23.

The Election Commission is preparing to hold the local level election on Baishakh 20, 2079. The five-year term of the local level people's representatives is coming to an end on 5 Jesth. The commission has started preparations for the election to lead the local level before the end of its term.

Chief Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya informed that the commission was preparing to hold local level elections on Baishakh 20 as the term of the local level people’s representatives was coming to an end.

“The constitution and election law of the country do not provide for extension after the
expiration of the term, so the commission is preparing to hold local elections before the
expiration of the term of the people's representative,” Thapaliya said at a two-day workshop with women journalists on election management and management in Dhulikhel, Kavre.

He also informed that the commission will soon consult with the government for that. Earlier, the commission had proposed a date of 5 Chaitra for the local elections with the government.
