MCC cannot be passed without party consensus: Joint General Secretary Pariyar

Nepali Congress Joint General Minister Jeevan Pariyar has said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) cannot be passed without the consent of the parties. Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Union Kaski, Pariyar, who is in Pokhara for the first time after being elected as the joint general minister, said that MCC should be passed with the consent of all parties as it is a grant and not a loan for Nepal.

He said that some points included in the MCC agreement were against Nepal’s interest and should be removed. Pariyar said the five-party alliance would not be broken because of the MCC. “There is no possibility of breaking the alliance between the five parties. The party has not discussed whether the alliance will continue till the next election. Coordination in the upcoming election will be decided through discussions within the party,” he said.

Joint General Secretary Pariyar said that the party would focus on the upcoming local elections after the completion of the committee as the party’s general convention is nearing completion. Stating that the General Convention has added a lot of enthusiasm to the party, he expressed confidence that the Nepali Congress would become the largest party in the upcoming election.

He said that there would be discussions within the party on the issue of coordination among the coalition parties in the upcoming election. Stating that the party will move forward by institutionalizing the changes brought about by the General Convention, Pariyar said that now it is necessary to have a theoretical debate of ideas within the party.

Nepali Kaski Congress president Kishor Dutta Baral said that the focus would now be on the
party’s organization and local elections. He also said that discussions are underway to make the party office technology friendly. Chairman Baral made it clear that his team would focus on strengthening the party organization.
