Congress elected 8 office bearers including president, majority of Deuba faction

Out of 13 office bearers (elected) of Nepali Congress, the results of 8 have been made public. Sher Bahadur Deuba and Shekhar Koirala competed with the full team in the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. Similarly, Prakash Man Singh and Bimalendra Nidhi Group also fielded candidates for the post of President, Deputy President and General Secretary. Presidential candidate Kalyan Gurung was the sole candidate in the election.

As of Friday morning, the results of one president, two vice presidents, two general secretaries and three joint general secretaries have been made public. The Deuba faction has won the post of chairman, one deputy chairman and two joint general ministers. Similarly, the Koirala faction has won three office bearers including a vice president, a general secretary and a joint general secretary. A general secretary has won from the Singh panel, the first round of voting candidate for the chairmanship.

After the second round of voting, Sher Bahadur Deuba was re-elected as the chairman on
Wednesday morning while Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung were elected as the
vice-chairman on the same night. Khadka has been elected as vice president from Deuba panel and Gurung has been elected as vice president from Koirala group.

Similarly, Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have been elected as general ministers as per the results of the polls held on Thursday afternoon. Thapa has been elected from the
Koirala panel and Sharma has been elected from the Prakash Man Singh group. For the
chairmanship, Deuba was accompanied by Singh and Sharma in the second round. Earlier,
Sharma was the spokesperson of the Central Committee headed by Deuba. Sharma’s vice president Khadka and Sharma have similar chemistry, so Sharma is expected to side with
Deuba.

Mahalakshmi Upadhyaya ‘Dina’ from the women's side, Bhishma Raj Angdambe from the Adivasi-Janajati side and Jeevan Pariyar from the Dalit side have been elected from the counting of votes which ended on Thursday night. Upadhyay and Aangdambe have been elected joint general ministers from Deuba group and Pariyar from the Koirala group. The counting of votes for the remaining five joint general ministers is underway. There is an arrangement for a treasurer to be nominated by the chairman.
