CAN dismisses captain and vice-captain; Lamichhane is named captain

Kathmandu, December 16

On December 15, The regulatory body, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), has removed the national cricket team’s captain Gyanendra Malla and vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee from their respective roles, raising the stakes in the Nepal cricket industry.
Sandeep Lamichhane, a well-known all-rounder, has been named the new captain of CAN.

The cricket regulatory body has also suspended four players from the central contract, namely Malla, Airee, Sompal Kami, and Kamal Singh Airee, for six months, starting in January 2022.

According to CAN, the decision was made after an investigation committee appointed to investigate their issues recommended it at a board meeting on Wednesday.

The four players have recently been contesting CAN’s classification of them and asking a review, but the Nepal cricket body has accused them of breaking the rules. 6 members of the board of directors have expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision.
In the meantime, six members of Nepal’s cricket board have expressed their displeasure with the decision. Rishi Ram Gautam, Daud Ansari, Karan Mahatara, Amit Babu Pandey, Chhumbi Lama, and Sanjay Singh are the names of the participants.

“Taking action is not a solution because we have key matches coming up soon,” Lama says. “However,
they (the majority) did not agree.” This judgment is erroneous, and it will have no positive impact on
Nepalese cricket.”
