Kathmandu, December 15
According to a recent government report, Nepal imports agricultural yields worth an average of Rs 200
million per year.
Agricultural produce imports are expanding in tandem with an increase in Nepalis' purchasing power,
according to a report published by the National Planning Commission, the country's main development
planning authority.
According to the research, rice has been one of the top ten products on which the government spends
the most money on imports in previous years, while maize is among the top 20. Potatoes, peas, wheat,
and onions are among the most commonly imported products.
The study was compiled using import data from 2015/16 through 2019/20 fiscal years.
The paper proposes a number of actions to reduce agricultural yield imports, which are divided into
policy-based, institutional, and strategic categories.
