WHO says- omicron spread in an unexpected way

The World Health Organization has indicated that Covid's new Variant Omicron has spread rapidly
globally in an unexpected way. The new Variant has so far been confirmed to have spread too 77
countries. WHO's chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus predicts the new Variant may have spread to
countries other than 77. He said the countries were not prepared enough to control the omicron.

“Many have now ignored the new virus. Even if Omicron does not have a serious impact, its
unpredictable infection rate is really worrying,” he said.

The Omicron Variant was first spotted in South Africa in November. The number of daily infections in
South Africa has also risen as new variants are spotted. President Cyril Ramaphosa himself has been
covid and in isolation.

A variety of countries have imposed travel restrictions on South Africa, showing the cause of the
omicron. Some countries have intensified the vaccine campaign, saying a buster dose is needed for
the new Variant.
