57 candidacies for various posts of the Central Committee of the Nepali Congress have withdraw their nominations.
Two candidates for the post of office bearer and 55 candidates for the post of central member withdrew their nominations on Sunday. Those who registered their candidacies on Saturday were given till 12 noon on Saturday to return their nominations.
At that time, Yuvaraj Neupane of Gorkha and Surendra Chaudhary withdrew their candidacies for the post of president and joint general secretary respectively. Neupane supported Shekhar Koirala while Chaudhary supported the joint general minister of the Sher Bahadur Deuba panel.
The 55 central members withdrawing their candidatures are from different clusters. After the withdrawal of the candidature, the Election Committee is now preparing to publish the final list.
According to the election committee, there are now five candidates for the post of chairperson, seven for the post of two deputy chairpersons, six for the post of two general secretaries and 19 for the post of eight joint general ministers.
Voting of the leadership selection is scheduled to begin at 8 am on Monday.
