Bamdev Gautam urges US to withdraw MCC

Bamdev Gautam, who left the CPN-UML and became the coordinator of the CPN-Ekta Rastriya Abhiyan, has urged the Nepali government and the United States to withdraw the American Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project. Gautam, who is also a member of the National Assembly said in a statement on Wednesday that the MCC project should be withdrawn as it is likely to cause serious harm due to the division of public opinion rather than Nepal’s interest.

“I humbly request that the MCC project be withdrawn as it is likely to cause serious harm due to the division of public opinion rather than Nepal’s interest,” Gautam said in a statement.

He also siid that the current government in Nepal and the incumbent parliament are not in a position to approve the MCC “In view of this situation, I humbly request the United States Government, albeit unilaterally, to withdraw the MCC project and promote Nepal’s interests,” Gautam urged the Nepalese government and the United States. Earlier, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Prachanda had different views on MCC.
