Preparations to conduct census in Lipulek-Kalapani area

The census has been prepared by the Department of Statistics in Lipulek and Kalapani areas of Darchula, which borders India. According to Dundi Raj Lamichhane, Chief of the Statistics Branch of the Central Statistics Office, the government has started the national census program by reaching the doorsteps of all Nepalese by Mangsir 9.

The census department will reach the doorsteps of 1,000 people from around 320 families in Gunji, Kuti and Nabhi villages of Byas Gaunpalika-1 ward, Lamichhane said. The department estimates that there were 700 people in the area earlier, but now there are 1,000 people in the area.

He said that despite rumours that Kalapani and Lipulek were controversial, the department had not taken such action and if there was any problem, it would count through diplomatic initiatives or alternative methods.

The department has trained and sent 8,000 supervisors to the field from last Bhadra 30. The department has made a schedule to complete the first phase of house listing by Asoj 18.

The department has stated that the selected enumerators will be vaccinated against Covid and the enumeration by deploying them in the field from Kartik 25 to Mangsir 9.
