The parliamentary committee has directed the government to immediately make arrangements for the stranded students to go to China for re-study.
A meeting of the Education and Health Committee of the Parliament on Sunday directed the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to take necessary diplomatic initiative to send the students who have been stranded due to the corona virus to China for re-study.
Chairperson of the committee Jayapuri Gharti Magar informed that the government has been instructed to immediately make arrangements to send thousands of stranded students to China for re-study by taking necessary diplomatic coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the meeting, the members of the committee had alerted the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to immediately solve the problem of students who could not go back to study in China. Committee member and former health minister Khagaraj Adhikari urged the government to make arrangements for the students to return to China for study within three days.
Another member of the committee Man Bahadur Bishwakarma, demanded the government to abolish the provision of practical online classes for medical and engineering college students. Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Dr. Hari Prasad Lamsal expressed his commitment to make necessary arrangements for the students going back to study in China as per the instructions given by the parliamentary committee.
He also informed the committee that the number of students currently going to study in China alone is 7,480. Joint Secretary Lamsal also clarified that the government would allow Nepali students to study in different countries only after consulting with the concerned university.
