Kathmandu, Sept 20:
Chairperson of Indigenous Nationalities Commission of Nepal, Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar has held a bilateral meeting with Minister of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission (NEAC) of the People’s Republic of China, Pan Yue.
During the meeting, both leaders expressed satisfaction over excellent state of bilateral relations between the two countries, the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing said in a press release.
Appreciating the deep and traditional socio-cultural and people-to-people relations between Nepal and China, Chairman Magar highlighted the common similarities between the ethnic communities of Nepal and China. He shed light on the objectives, visions and functions of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission, reads a press statement issued by Nepali Embassy in Beijing, China.
The Chairman also underscored the need of frequent exchanges between the commissions, universities and students for the preservation and promotion of the indigenous communities and their intangible heritage.
Similarly, Minister Pan stated about the harmonious existence of ethnic communities and minorities of China under the guidance of Chinese leadership.
He agreed to enhance the exchanges and collaboration between two commissions which will further strengthen the people- to-people connectivity between Nepal and China, according to the press statement.
Following the meeting, Chairman Magar attended a welcome banquet hosted by the Chinese Minister Pan in the honor of the visiting delegation.
Prior to the meeting, the delegation visited the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and the National Palace of Ethnic Cultures.
The delegation led by Magar was comprised of commission members—Reena Rana, Sharan Rai, Surya Bahadur Gurung, and Surendra Kumar Yadav, chargé d’affaires, Tek Prasad Pulami, Under Secretary and other senior officials of the Embassy.
The Chinese side included Zhang Mou, Director-General of the Department of Culture and Publicity, Wei Guoxion, Director-General of the International Department, Jiang Shigong, Vice-President of Minzu University of China and other officials.
Chairman Magar reached Beijing on Wednesday, leading a five-member Nepali delegation.
