Supreme Court orders to submit written reply with reasons for paying medical expenses to Khanal

The Supreme Court has ordered to submit a written reply with reasons to the government’s decision to pay for the treatment of former Prime Minister JhalaNathKhanal in abroad.

A single bench of Justice IshworPrasad Khatiwada today issued a show cause order in the name of the government seeking a written reply within 15 days.

Advocate BimalPokharel had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on Bhadra 13 against the decision of the government, saying that it would be against the public Health Act 2075 to provide the cost of treatment abroad to Khanal from the state treasury.

The government led by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had decided to provide Rs 3.1 million for kidney transplant treatment in India. The Nepali embassy in Delhi had paid for Khanal’s treatment through the Minkstry of Foreign Affairs.

Former Prime Minister Khanal had undergone a kidney transplant at the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, India on Asar 2 for treatment. He has returned home a few days ago after a successful kidney transplant.
