The surface of the Mahakali River is rising due to continuous rains. Stating that the risk has increased with the rising water level in Mahakali, the District Administration Office has urged everyone to be vigilant. The flow of Mahakali river has reached five meters and 80 centimetres this morning. According to the police post Dattu, if it exceeds 6 meters, there is danger. Stones and big wood are flowing in the river.
The embankment has risen in the Bangabgad area of Khalanga district headquarters due to the rising rivers. According to journalist Bhojraj Joshi, Mahakali has reached above the embankment under construction. Now the river has taken its old form, Chief District Officer Siddharaj Joshi said that the risk has increased in the surrounding areas due to the rising water level in the river. The administration has urged the people of the district to be cautious as there is a possibility of flood in the riverside and streams of the districts.
With the onset of monsoon on Jesth 28, it has been raining continuously across the country. The administration has urged to remain vigilant as there is a risk of floods and landslides as the monsoon is active this week it will rain all over the country. Although the district headquarters is still safe due to the construction of embankment after the Mahakali floods of 2070 BS, the settlements in the area above the district headquarters and in the southern region are still at risk.
Rural roads blocked
Rural roads have been blocked due to continuous rains. The Khar-Khalanga road, Khalanga-Tinkar road and Pitule-Paribagad road have been blocked at three places of Khar-Khalanga road which is being gravelled under the State Pride Scheme. The road has been blocked and vehicles operating in Khalanga-Khar area have bern blocked in Malvela, Jhusku Mod and Sela areas of this road section, said Mangal Singh Thagunna, Chairman of Udyog Vanijya Sangha.
Locals travelling to Naugad have been facing problems due to road blockage. Dhansingh Sitoli, a local of Naugad said that the vegetable sellers coming to Khalanga from Naugad have to suffer more. “When the road blocked, there is a problem in transporting vegetables,” he said. “If the vehicles run, the vegetables can be easily transported to the market.”
Chairman Thagunna said that the construction business has been requested to open the blocked road. “Gwalior Construction Services is graveling the road in this section,” said Chairman Thagunna. “We are urging the construction business to open the road.”
According to the District Police Office, the landslide has blocked the reel landslide area of Paribagar road. Similarly, local Ashok Ojha informed that the road was blocked in Ratakatha area of Khalanga-Tilankar road section. A complete landslide has occurred in Ratakatha. According to Narendra Bahadur Chand, Information Officer at the District Police Office, the police have been mobilized in the landslide area after the rock fell. The police administration has urged to take precaution as the rain has not stopped yet.
