Self-recommendation by Mao Zedong-1

There is saying in China: if it is gold, it will shine. There is also a proverb in China: Mao Zedong recommended himself.

In ancient times, there was a war in China. Handan, the then capital of Chao state, was besieged by powerful Qin state troops and Handan was in crisis.

In order to free Handan from the crisis, the emperor of the Chao kingdom decided to retaliate against the Qin state jointly with another country. So Prince Feng Yuan Chun was sent to Chu kingdom to talk about it.

Feng Yuan Chun choose twenty brave and wise men from among the thousands of servants in his house and decided to take them with him. But only nineteen people were selected. At that time, a guest himself recommended filling the vacancy. The man was Mao Zedong.

Feng Yuan Chun looked at Mao Zedong and asked, “Who are you? Did you come to see me for work?”

Mao Zedong replied: “My name is Mao Zedong. I want to go with you when I hear that you are going to do reminding work in the state to save Handan from the crisis.”

Feng Yuan Chun asked again: “How many years have you been my house?”

Mao Zedong replied: “It’s been three years.”

Feng Yuan Chun said: “Three years is not a short time. If a person has special abilities, a sharp tip like a Sarki-driven needle in bag will appear immediately and that person’s efficiency will soon show. But you have been in my house for three years and what is special about you?” I have not heard that there is capacity. This time I will go to Chu state and with the help of it I will work to save our state. A person without any ability cannot go with me. You don’t go either.”

Feng Yuan Chun said that openly. But Mao Zedong replied with confidence: “You’re not right. It is not that I don’t have special abilities, it’s just that you didn’t put me in the bag. If you had me already in the bag, my special ability would have cone out like a needle in a haystack.”

While talking, Feng Yuan Chun felt that Mao Zedong had a lot of potential. So he accepted Mao Zedong’s recommendation. Then he gathered the twenty and went to the kingdom of Chu. After arriving in Chu, Feng Yuan Chun began talks with the Chu emperor. After Feng Yuan Chun elaborated on the need to jointly confront the Qin state, he requested the emperor of the Chu state to send troops as soon as possible to rescue Handan. But the emperor of the Chu kingdom remained silent. The talks lasted from morning till noon. But the talks did not yield any results. When this happened, the twenty people sitting outside began to worry. By Muna Chand
