On August 4, 2020, there was a catastrophic explosion in the part of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Chan Wei Chan, 31, experienced the horrific explosion at an office about 5 kilometres away. She is a volunteer with the Beijing Peace Benefit Fund for Lebanon. Her main job is to help Syrian refugees in and around Beirut.
Despite the fear after the catastrophic blast, Chan Wei Chan rushed to the various refugee camps as soon as possible to inspect the actual situation inside the camp. With her help, daily necessities and health items have been delivered to the camps.
Chan Wei Chan, who works in Beirut, has gradually learned more about the lives of refugees there. Talking about the work there, she happily says:
We have become friends with the people there. It is a pleasure for me to hear their stories and learn about their lives. I have also got their trust. I am proud to be able to make friends across such borders.
After returning home from work in Lebanon in 2021, Chan Wei Chan is currently preparing for a collective goodwill seminar. She wants to tell her Chinese friend the story of the refugees.
