Nepali Congress candidate Driga Narayan Pandey has been elected in the National Assembly by election for a vacant post in Lumbini Province on Monday.
Pandey defeated CPN-UML candidate Chandra Bahadur Khadka. Pandey got 4140 votes while Khadka got 3594 votes.
Pandey was assisted by the CPN-Maoist Centre, Upendra Yadav faction of the Janata Samajwadi Party and Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of the CPN-UML.
Pandey, who was elected to the Lumbini state assembly from the UML, had resigned on May 2. He had joined the UML from the Nepali Congress just before the 2074 election.
A seat in the National Assembly fell vacant after Khadka, elected from the UCPN(Maoist) center, joined the UML.
Out of a total of 300 voters in the by elections, 297 cast their votes. By Muna Chand
