Germany on Thursday saw the highest number of daily new COVID-19 cases since the start of the outbreak, with 6,638 new confirmed cases reported in the past 24 hours, official data showed.
It came just hours after Chancellor Angela Merkel met with the leaders of Germany’s 16 federal states to agree on tougher restrictions designed to slow the spread of the contagion.
