E-passport printing tender cancelled for commission

The government has cancelled the tender process of printing new e-passport worth around four billion rupees at the last hours. Passport Department’s director general Ramkaji Khadka informed that the tender process has been cancelled but he didn’t speak about the reason behind cancellation.

Due to clash of interests between the Passport Department under the Foreign Ministry and the Security Printing Center under the Information and Communications Technology Ministry, the tender has been cancelled, reports Naya Page Online.

Center’s executive director Bikal Poudel was continuously making efforts to cancel the tender.

The Passport Department had decided to print five million copies of e-passport.

Along with cancellation of the tender process, efforts are on to print the e-passport in France under the government to government model.
