NCP prepares for deputy speaker’s resignation

The ruling Nepal Communist Party is preparing for resignation of deputy speaker along with announcement of the upcoming convention of the Federal Parliament.

If the deputy speaker will not tender resignation, the ruling party will lose the post of the speaker, which has remained vacant after Krishnabahadur Mahara tendered resignation.

According to the constitution, the speaker and deputy speaker should be represented by different political parties and also one among the two posts has to be female. Earlier, the then UML and Maoist Center had shared the two positions, however, after unification of the two parties, the ruling party is compelled to quit the post of deputy speaker to gain speaker’s post, reports Gorkhapatra daily.
