The Tribhuvan International Airport has planned to reopen duty-free shop after its closure 12 years ago.
The TIA Authority has prepared an action plan for operation of the duty-free shop and submitted it to the Ministry for Tourism and Civil Aviation.
In August, Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai had asked TIA to develop a plan to run the duty-free shop along with the list of items to be sold in the shop, reports Aarthik Abhiyan daily.
Twelve years ago, when Baburam Bhattarai was the finance minister, had closed down the decades old duty-free shop run by National Trading Ltd, a government undertaking.
As the duty-free shop was closed down abruptly the National Trading Ltd. faced a heavy loss due to stock of items to be sold from the duty-free shop. Finally, the government undertaking was collapsed due to the loss.
