For the first time in its history, Victoria’s Secret is featuring a size-14 woman in its advertisements.
“I never expected that I was going to see an image of myself on the wall next to these top super models that I have been looking up to since I was a little girl,” the brand’s size-14 model, Ali Tate-Cutler, said recently during an interview with Microsoft News.
“I can speak on the fact that I am comfortable with the term ‘plus size model’. I don’t get hung up on the term. I do know that I am not the first plus size model, but I am the first 12-14 size model,” she said.
“Size 14 is actually the average size of women in America,” and more images of women that size need to be featured in the media and in fashion, said Tate-Cutler.
For years, Victoria’s Secret has been slammed for its lack of larger-sized models. The singer Halsey and the model Kate Upton have previously criticized the company for focusing only on svelte female physiques.
