Some Netizens have revealed that the American e-commerce platform Amazon is selling T-shirts with designs and slogans in support of the violent protests in Hong Kong, reports the Global Times.
T-shirts with pictures of the flags of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the United States, along with the slogans “Hong Kong is not China” and “Free Hong Kong democracy now” are for sale on Amazon’s website.
The discovery of the T-shirts has triggered anger online in China. A consumer from Beijing told the Global Times that he was shocked: “How can the world’s largest e-commerce platform not know that Hong Kong is a part of China, and that it was returned to China in 1997? This behavior is an insult to China’s One Country, Two Systems policy. The company’s reputation among Chinese consumers must plunge.”
Amazon is not the first company to sell products that attack China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Many Chinese celebrities have canceled deals with global brands including Coach, Givenchy, and Versace due to the use of offensive words or images on their products.
