Many mainstream newspapers published today have highlighted the unprecedented price hike of the commodities of everyday use and suffering of the low and middle income people.
The papers have stated that as the Government proposed an increase on excise duty and Value Added Tax (VAT) in transportation goods, the entrepreneurs and business houses have suddenly increased the price. Though the provisions of the budget will be effective from 17 July, they have increased the amount of goods. They have even raised the cost of commodities whose tax has not been augmented by the budget for the fiscal year 2019/20.
