The British Council that has been operating in Nepal since 1959 is found to have been evading tax that accumulates huge amount of money from more than 50 thousand students annually.
According to Naya Patrika daily, the Council collects Rs.820 million per annum but has not paid a single penny to the government of Nepal. It has been evading income tax and value added tax since its operation in Nepal. The Inland Revenue Department has confirmed the clandestine mode of operandi of the Council and avoiding tax.
The office bearers of the Nepal Educational Consultation Association (ECAN) are aiding and abetting in evading tax, reports the paper.
