The Chinese government has donated agricultural equipment to Zimbabwe, helping the southern African country to boost its agricultural productivity.
Valued at 136,000 US dollars, the equipment includes a tractor for farmer training, submersible pumps, incubators, a silent cutting machine, milking equipment, diesel generators and more.
Speaking at a handover ceremony, Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun has pledged continued support to Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector.
“The Chinese government has positioned agriculture as one of the important areas of our bilateral cooperation. Today’s donated equipment will help to improve Zimbabwe’s agricultural productivity. We hope that by upgrading Zimbabwe’s agricultural technology, we are able to better help Zimbabwe to combat poverty and achieve better and faster social economic development.”
While accepting the donation, Zimbabwe’s deputy minister of agriculture, has expressed his gratitude for the donation from China.
Douglas Karoro said he believes the equipment will contribute significantly to the growth of Zimbabwe’s agriculture sector, and its economy as well.
“Zimbabwe is working hard to improve its economy under our Vision 2030 program. This vision, which is to see Zimbabwe attain a middle income status by 2030, is very much underpinned by sound and sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. This donation of equipment is therefore very important as it will contribute immensely towards improved productivity in the agricultural sector.”
