Government aims curtailing press freedom

Kathmandu, 10 May: The government has quietly planned to bring a new law to replace existing Press Council Nepal by a Media Council Nepal.

If the bill will be endorsed, the media – concerned reporter, editor and publisher are subjected to pay from 25 thousand rupees to one million rupees as compensation to the victim against violation of individual’s prestige.

The proposed law is taken as an attempt to curb media rights.
