‘Media Council Bill unacceptable’

Kathmandu, 10 May: Former Minister and Joint General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Prakash Sharan Mahat, has said the bill on media council would be unacceptable to his party because it was being brought to violate freedom of expression and press.

At a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union Nuwakot Chapter today,  he viewed that freedom of press and expression is an inherent right of citizen, so the bill drafted against it was not relevant. He warned, “If the bill is passed as it is, it does not protect democracy but reflects panchayat and Rana regime.”
