China’s state radio and TV broadcaster, China Media Group (CMG), launched a media laboratory featuring the application of techniques including 5G, 4K and AI in Shanghai on Sunday.

Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group, said CMG is pushing forward the 5G+4K+AI strategy to power its development and the company has used 5G, 4K and VR technologies in its coverage of a series of major events such as the 2019 Spring Festival Gala, the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition.

CMG on Sunday also launched the production of a 4K documentary featuring the opening-up and development stories of Shanghai’s Pudong New Area over the past 30 years. The six-episode documentary is scheduled for broadcast in April, 2020. China announced the opening-up and development of Pudong in 1990.

Ying Yong, mayor of Shanghai, attended the launch events on Sunday.
