The Taiwan issue is the most important and sensitive part of China-U.S. relations that should be handled cautiously in order to avoid any harm to bilateral ties, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang told the press at a regular news briefing on Monday.
On Sunday, two U.S. warships reportedly sailed through the Taiwan Strait. The move, according to Geng, was closely monitored by China.
Geng said that China has voiced its concerns to the U.S., urging Washington to uphold and respect the one-China policy and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués so as to maintain the good momentum of China-U.S. relations as well as the regional peace and stability.
