School officials, from senior executives to headmasters, will be required to dine with students in canteens in China’s middle schools, primary schools, and kindergartens from April 1, according to a notice issued by the Education Ministry, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the National Health Commission on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, parents of students at a primary school in Chengdu posted videos and photos of moldy canteen food they claimed had made their children ill.

Local authorities collected samples of food from the school and found evidence sub-standard noodles were being used, but the remaining did not have any problems. Another three samples are being tested for salmonella.
