Basketball team formed among Chinese organ recipients

While doctors may recommend sports as a way to ensure one’s heatlh following an organ transplant, a group in China has decided to create a basketball team for a somewhat different reason.

Five people who all received organs from the same donor have decided to create the team to honor the young man who help save their lives, reports CCTV.

Ye Sha died of an acute cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 16 in 2017. After his death, the teenager donated his organs to seven people in need, including his heart, liver, lung, two kidneys and a pair of corneas.

Five of the patients who received Ye Sha’s organs decided to honor him by creating a basketball team in his name, as he was an avid fan of the game.

The Ye Sha team actually played 2 minutes during the Women Chinese Basketball Association All-star Game. The amateurs wore jerseys with the printed shape of organs that were donated by Ye Sha, as well as the team’s name. The players’ numbers were 20, 1, 7, 4 and 27 respectively, which refers to April 27, 2017, the date when Ye Sha made the donation.
