Alertness issued after India set to open Dhauliganga dam

Baitadi, Aug 29:

Pithauragadh district of Uttarkhand State, India is going to open Dhauliganga dam for two days- August 31 to September 1.

With this, Baitadi district has issued an alert for people to observe caution as the water level would increase in the Mahakali River.
The dam under the Dauliganga hydropower project would be opened from midday August 31 to next day evening.

Chief District Officer in Baitadi, Bhim Kant Sharma, informed that general people were appealed to maintain alertness during some hours after the dam is opened.

The alertness was issued after the Indian side sent a letter to the District Administration Office to this regard. The dam is being opened to clear turbidity in the wake of rising water level with monsoon rains. The sluice gates would be opened to release the water out from the reservoir.

The people on the bank of Mahakali River ranging from Darchula to Dadeldhura and Kanchanpur districts downstream were therefore requested to stay awake.

The Dauliganga Hydropower Project’s dam water is released every year.
