Ex-PM Sushil Koirala’s 85th birth anniversary being observed today

Kathmandu, Aug 12:

Ex-President of the Nepali Congress (NC) and former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala’s 85th birth anniversary is being observed today by organizing several programmes.

Koirala who was born in 18 Shrawan 1997 had devoted himself in politics after being impressed by the first people-elected Prime Minister of Nepal, BP Koirala.

The Constitution was promulgated under Koirala’s leadership on 20 September 2015 by bringing into confidence all the parties represented in the Constituent Assembly.

As a result, the responsibility of drafting the constitution through the Constituent Assembly as per the aspirations of the Nepali people since 2007 BS was fulfilled during the leadership of Sushil Koirala.

He had ever advocated for the truth and survived a simple life. Former Prime Minister Koirala, who played a lead role in the promulgation of the Constitution through the Constituent Assembly remained active for the effective implementation of the constitution till the last moment of his life.

Koirala who played a leading role for political change in the country at different times and periods, has established himself as a simple leader in Nepali politics.

Various programmes will be organized across the country today on the occasion of International Youth Day in memory of late leader Koirala.

Chairperson of Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation and former general secretary of the Nepali Congress, Dr Shashank Koirala said it would be a true tribute to Koirala if the democratic system is strengthened through the successful implementation of the constitution.

Established in 2073 BS, the Foundation has been working as a think tank in the fields of education, health, sports, art, culture, human rights, women and children and social welfare. The Foundation has also been organizing various creative programmes to commemorate the contribution of the late Koirala to life.

Foundation member secretary Atul Koirala said that in today’s era, there is a need for honest and ethical leadership like Koirala. Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is the patron of the foundation.
