Conflict-victims welcome Transitional Justice Bill

Nepalgunj, Aug 8:

Conflict Victim and Single Women Network, Banke has welcomed the bill relating to transitional justice.
Speaking at a discussion on ‘media engagement in the repatriation of justice’ here today, Network Chairperson Ekamaya Bishwokarma welcomed the latest development regarding the Bill and stressed that conflict victims should not be divided under any pretext.

“We can only truly understand the depth of our pain as survivors of the conflict,” she said. “The families of security forces also endured significant trauma during the war. As the Bill progresses, we must ensure that conflict victims are not further victimized,” she said.

She underlined that instead of reserving resources for conflict survivors, their access to education, healthcare, and employment should be guaranteed, calling for equal treatment of conflict victims.
Parbati Budha, a conflict survivor from Baijanath rural municipality in Banke, expressed concerns about the dominance of non-conflict victims in their agenda.

Tapta Paudel, Chair of Raptisonari rural municipality, stated that the local government considers the Network an essential partner and has implemented skill-enhancement programmes to address the income generation needs of conflict survivors.

Nepal Peace Building Initiative Executive Director Subindra Bogati, Programme Manager Mibusha Ghimire, and journalist Shankar Khanal, among others, urged for justice for conflict survivors.
