Kathmandu, Oct 16:
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, left here today for Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China, leading a delegation to participate in the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Dinesh Kumar Bhattarai among the high-level government officials saw off DPM Shrestha at the VIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport.
The 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is taking place in Beijing on Tuesday and Wednesday. The conclave will discuss the policy and progress of the high-level forum on green development.
DPM Shrestha is scheduled to make a special address to the programme. He will also attend a banquet to be hosted by China’s President Xi Jinping tomorrow which is the conference opening day.
It is said the Heads of State and government of various countries will be attending the convlave.
The Nepali delegation led by DPM Shrestha comprises Joint Secretary at the Home Ministry, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Rai, Chief Executive Officer of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Anil Pokharel, among other officials.
Representatives from over 130 countries and 30 international organisations are poised to convene in Beijing. One of the key aspects of this summit is the esteemed presence of world leaders. Leaders from diverse nations representing various cultures, economies, and political ideologies are expected to attend and actively participate in the discussions.
The Forum aims to strengthen existing partnerships and cultivate collaborations among participating countries, address common challenges like climate change, poverty, and healthcare, promote joint efforts and knowledge sharing, and facilitate cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections, it is stated.
Moreover, the Forum will likely witness the signing of numerous agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between participating countries and organisations, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation, trade, and investments and, in turn, promoting mutual prosperity and development.
