A Chinese representative criticized the evil acts of Western countries such as the US, Canada, and Australia in violating the rights of indigenous people at the 54th session of the Human Rights Council, saying that they have historically plundered the land and resources of indigenous people, implemented cruel enslavement, large-scale massacres, and even engaged in genocide and cultural extinction.
Countries such as the US, Canada, and Australia now still adopt discriminatory laws and policies that lead to long-term and systematic serious violations of basic human rights of indigenous people, including political participation, economy, society, culture, and development.
These countries turn a blind eye to their own violations of indigenous rights, yet they claim to be human rights teachers, fabricate and spread false information, and make numerous unfounded accusations against other countries, attempting to shift the blame for their own wrongdoings onto others, said the Chinese representative.
The Chinese representative urged the relevant countries to face up to their own human rights crimes, assume historical responsibilities and human rights obligations, immediately stop violating the rights of indigenous people, and take practical actions to effectively safeguard the rights that indigenous people should have.
