Xi’s article on Chinese modernization instills confidence in China’s long-term development

In an article to be published on Wednesday, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, stressed that Chinese modernization is the only correct path for building a strong China and achieving national rejuvenation.

Coming at a time when the global geo-economic landscape is rapidly shifting and China’s economic development faces challenges, the article further highlighted China’s unwavering determination to pursue Chinese modernization, injecting confidence among the Chinese public, analysts noted.

The article by Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published in this year’s 16th issue of the Qiushi Journal, a flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The article expounds on the common elements between Chinese modernization and the modernization processes of all countries, as well as features that are unique to the Chinese context, noting that in order to turn Chinese modernization into successful practice, strenuous efforts are required.

Chinese modernization is the modernization of a huge population, the largest in terms of scale and the most difficult. Chinese modernization is the modernization of common prosperity for all, which differs from Western modernization. Efforts should be made to ensure that the achievements of modernization benefit all more fairly and prevent polarization, the article said.

The article pointed out that Chinese modernization is the modernization of material and cultural-ethical advancement, the modernization of harmony between humanity and nature, and the modernization of peaceful development. China will strive to safeguard world peace and development as it pursues its own development, and will make greater contributions to world peace and development through its own development, according to the article.

Practice has proven that Chinese modernization is the only correct path for building a strong China and achieving national rejuvenation, the article stressed.

In the pursuit of Chinese modernization, there is strong leadership, a strong public sector, an efficient private sector, a super-large economy and effective monetary and fiscal policy, and other support, Cao Heping, an economist at Peking University, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

With such advantages, China has the capabilities to tackle challenges when it encounters cyclical adjustments in development, short-term economic downward pressure, and a technological uphill battle, Cao said, pointing to examples such as China’s rise to be a leader in 5G technology.

For the world, which is facing a slew of challenges in terms of development, China’s overcoming the uphill battle in pursuing Chinese modernization will also offer valuable experience and examples for other countries, Cao said.
