HBO announced on Tuesday the highly-anticipated final season of “Game of Thrones” will air in April 2019.
The eighth and final season will be its shortest too, with only six-episodes.
However, this last season will be guided by familliar lenses; show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with behind-the-scenes ‘Thrones’ veterans David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik will direct, and Benioff and Weiss along with Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill will write the episodes.
When season seven ended late last year, an all-time high of 12.1 million viewers tuned in. An additional 4 million caught the episode on streaming channels.
“Game of Thrones” won best drama at this year’s Emmy Awards, and has made stars of many of its cast members including Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner and Kit Harington.
